DSST Intro to Computing 475

by Liz
(San Diego CA)

Well, studied my butt off for about 2 weeks, used any and all resources online as well as my TCN study guide and regular old notes and flashcards.

I had some difficulty at the test site (SDSU) with the proctor not being able to set up my test, finally 40 min. later it was working. The other problem I had was not being able to find the DSST code for my school. Supposedly, you can get it on www.getcollegecredit.com but I couldn't find it. So now I have to pay $20-30 more to send the test score to my school (ISU). Do any of you wonderful people know where to get the DSST codes? The schools' federal codes are easy to find, is this the same thing?

Overall, I feel like I was very prepared and I only had to do a complete guess on about 2 questions, educated guess on about 8 and the rest I knew. 94 questions, I took my time and finished in about 50 minutes. I did not use Insta cert, and I took many practice exams prior to the real test, including the prometrics $5.00 one which was most similar to the real one.

DSST Codes
by: -Justin

Okay, took a little longer than expected, but this is what I got back from the local center. She was nice enough to copy/paste directly from the DSST proctor information file, so we're looking at DSST gospel here:

"At the time of testing, military and civilian examinees may designate an
institution to Designated receive an official score report free of charge.
To find institution codes, visit Score Report
www.getcollegecredit.com/search.html "

The link given is the same one that we used earlier to find the school, so it appears the four digit codes are the ones you need.

Hope that helps,

-Justin

Justin is AWESOME!
by: Liz

Wow that is really, really nice of you to offer. I would really appreciate that. The school is Indiana State University. Would you verify the following for that school: DSST code 8206 and CLEP code 1322. Does Excelsior require a code too? I don't have a clue what that might be. I was reading your bio and it seems they know you pretty well at your local testing site! Thank you again for your help and for this great site. I am starting to study for College Algebra next and I will need all the help I can get!

My pleasure!

Liz,

What does (ISU) stand for? I ran a few searches and was coming up with Illinois State University, Indiana State University, etc.

If you let me know the name, I can confirm the code next week. I'll swing by the local testing center and have them look it up for you.

Always glad to be of help!

DSST code.
by: Liz

Justin, just went to get college credit.com again and searched again. I did that search before but didn't know what the number meant. I saw a 4 digit number above my school's name. I did not know that was the DSST code. Bummer! I wish I had known that yesterday or that someone at the test site would have known it. Well, next time I will be prepared! Thank you so much!

Thanks to Justin!
by: Liz

Thanks for the info. To put it nicely, well, the proctor wasn't exactly knowledgeable about DSST's! Other testing centers I have been to did have the codes and did know how to set the test up on the computer! It was difficult to not get really stressed right before the test because of all the problems at the test site. I did look on the get college credit website as well as my school's website and found nothing but the federal code for FAFSA. I want to THANK YOU for this excellent website you have created, it helped me so much and I know it will help me in the future with more exams! God bless you for creating it.

Congrats!
by: -Justin

Hey Liz,

Congrats on the pass! You "should" be able to find the school's Prometric code here:

http://www.getcollegecredit.com/search.html

Plug in your school's location at the top and then find it on the results. The four digit number at the top of the schools info is, I believe, the code for that specific school.

Every testing center I've ever been in has a list of the schools along with the transcript code for that school.

Ask the proctor to check in their binder/folder/wherever they keep all the troubleshooting steps. From what I've seen of it, it looks like part of the information package that Prometric sends to the testing centers.

Congrats again on the pass!
