FCP Free Practice Test FAQ
Welcome to the FCP Free Practice Test FAQ! I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have about the practice tests found on this site. If you have a question that isn't addressed, please feel free to contact me through the site's "Contact Us" form and I'll add it here.
What are they?
Kind of a self-answering question, isn't it? :P
They are a way to practice taking the real exams before you actually do so. They can also be used as a great study tool which is how I like to learn.
How do you come up with the questions?
First, I gather all the topics from my own notes, after-action reports and whatever other people send me. I then give those topics to someone who is much better than me at creating multiple choice questions. Finally, I go through them all to make sure it covers what it needs to and hopefully spot any errors.
How close to the real exams are these practice tests?
As close as I can make them.
From a technical standpoint, they have basically the same number of questions (the real exam occasionally throws in a few extra), the time limit is the same and the number of choices is also similar to the real CLEP and DSST's. I wanted to give you a realistic experience. While not perfect, I think we're pretty close.
Does passing these practice tests mean I'm ready for the real CLEP or DSST?
To give a short answer, I'm afraid not.
If you know the material here, you will be well on your way to passing the real CLEP or DSST. I've done my best to include everything I could remember or have gotten from others that is on the real exams. From the feedback I've gotten so far, people are doing very well using these tools. Still, it's not like I can give a guarantee that "if you make X on score, you'll pass the real exam". My advice would be to take the practice test until you can score above 90% three times in a row.
Are these the same questions I'll see on the real exams?
Almost certainly not.
I've done my best to ensure they cover the same information, but there are rules against sharing the actual questions of a CLEP and DSST exam. We do try to follow those rules around here. ;)
Is one time through the practice test enough?
Well... probably not.
You see, I have at least 100 questions built into the question bank for each practice test. The test then randomly selects a number to match the real exam. So if the real exam only has 75 questions, there are 25 questions that aren't being asked during your single practice test.
I'm not going to say I intentionally had the test software built that way to force you to go through the exam multiple times... okay, I admit it, I really did. I want you to know this information. Going through the thing multiple times is the best way to get all of the questions.
Is there a way to just skip the questions and see the answers?
Yep, though I wouldn't recommend it.
Of course, you can study however you like, but I find it helps to concentrate on one question at a time. If you click on the "Finish Exam" button early, it will take you to the scoring sheet. You can then click on "View Details" and it will give you a page with all of the questions and answers for this practice test.
Why does it seem like the practice test changes every time I take it?
This goes back to the earlier question about just going through the practice test once.
The testing software randomly selects a certain number of questions from the question bank, based on the CLEP or DSST you're preparing for. It then randomizes those questions, as well as the answers for each question. In essence, you're taking a different practice test each time.
Why are you giving these for free?
Ah, but why wouldn't I? ;)
I love practice tests. They're probably my favorite way to learn. While the Peterson practice tests are great and free for now, we never know when they're going to start costing money again. I wanted to create something that would prepare for that eventuality even if it never appears.
Besides, I like giving people options.
Can I send you topics that you're missing?
Absolutely! You can do so by contacting me per the usual manner (Contact Us at the top of the page). Every bit of help makes this of more use!
Hey, you got something wrong!
It's very possible though hopefully very rare.
I double check everything before posting it, but I'm hardly infallible. If you think you've found something that's wrong, please, please, please let me know via the Contact Us form at the top of the website. That's my number one worry with these and I don't want anyone studying the wrong answer.
So... Where can I find them?
You can get to the FCP Free Practice Tests by using the link at the top of the page under "Practice Exams" or by using this link.
Have fun and I hope you find them useful!
